Good Kids....Good Manners.

I haven't kept up the girls' sayings and doings very well. I always forget to document it on here, then when I think about it I have forgotten exactly what the girls' have said. And I like to do it as soon as it happens that way I can record it almost exactly as they said/did it.

Well today there are three things I wanted to record:

Ryan is gone tonight with scouts, so I gave the girls a bath, read for 20 minutes, had a bedtime snack, did homework with Madisen, brushed their teeth, read scriptures, said out prayers and put them to bed. About ten minutes later as I was busy cleaning the kitchen and doing the last of the dishes, Madisen comes around the corner of the kitchen and startles me.

Me: Are you ok, Madi? Are you scared?

Madisen: No, I'm OK. I just wanted to make sure you weren't lonely.

Me: I come down on my knees and embrace her and say, "Oh, thank you Madi but I am fine. I am just cleaning the kitchen up."

Madisen: Ok. I just thought you might be lonely.

Me: No, I am ok. Did you need anything?

Madisen: A hug.

Me: Me too. <<>>

Before dinner tonight I let the girls paint for a while, while I was preparing dinner. I over heard this:

Avery: Madi, do you like my picture?

Madisen: Yeah! That is really great Avery!

Avery beaming: Thank you Madi! I like it too and all the colors.

Madisen: Yeah, it has a lot of beautiful colors.

Avery beaming even more: Thanks Madi!

Madi: Your welcome.

(OK, so seriously this conversation they had cracked me up! It was like they were so formal and so polite to each other, that I thought..."who's kid are you!?" " Who taught you that?" LOL!)

Emily and Avery were playing outside this morning in the back yard. I was busy cleaning up and doing some laundry when I heard the back door fly open and Avery running in the house chanting...I gotta go, I gotta go, I  gotta go!

Wondering what she was doing I headed down the hall to see her dart into the bathroom. I stop and listen to her talk to herself from the hallway:

Avery: Oh man. I didn't make it in time. (pause) Oh...wait. There's just a lil' bit of pee-pee. And that's OK, to have a lil' bit.

It was pretty funny. I guess it's one of those times where you had to be THERE. haha.

We have been swimming a lot lately at the Apartment pool. Well two weeks ago Avery used her floaties for the first time by herself and was swimming all over the place. She made the comment when she figured it out, "I am SOOOO happy!!!"

It was one of those moments where you had to be there. But I had to record it because I will always remember her excitement when she said it! So cute.

Flat

I was changing Emily's diapers and wiping her bum when Avery walked by and saw Emily's diaper. Avery stops and says, "Emily's poo-poo is flat like a pancake! No, flat like a cookie!"

Umm...ok. Food on the brain, Avery?

Irritated

Avery, Emily and Madisen were by the front door putting on their shoes as we were heading out to the new house to clean and while Avery was putting on her shoes and helping Emily put on hers she was getting frustrated and said, " I am SOOOO irritating!"

You mean irritated??  Haha!

McDonalds!

Our little Emily doesn't talk much. In fact she only says, "Momma, Dadda, Yeah, No" (her favorite word), and occasionally I have heard her say, 'ball'.

Well this weekend as we were driving home from Mom and Bob's house we were driving, looking for a McDonald's to eat lunch at and where the kids could play for awhile to get their wiggles out. As we drove in, Emily yells out, "Mc-Don-olds!!"

We couldn't believe it! We have been trying to get her to say words and talk and one of her first words is McDonalds! That's pretty sad. haha! But it was sure cute!!

Band-aids as floating devices?

The girls were all sitting at the table eating a quick snack before we headed out to the pool. I was in the bathroom getting ready and over heard the girls talking so I had to write it down so I wouldn't forget. Thought it was pretty funny.

Avery: This band-aid that I have on my knee will help me not sink in the water.

Madisen: What?! A band-aid won't do that.

Avery: Yes, it will help me so I will float.

Madisen: No, it won't. Band-aids fall off in the water all the time. It will just fall off. It won't help you float.

Avery: No, cuz band-aids don't BREATHE!!

Fish Face

Avery loves to put her hands on each of our checks and push our face into a fish face. Tonight before bedtime she cupped Ryan's face in her small hands and said, "You are my best fish...EVER!"

Hold my hand

On our way home from our trip to Cedar City/Las Vegas to see Mom and Bob and my family the girls were about to watch a movie in the car and Madisen said that some parts of the movie scared her. Avery says to Madisen, "Madisen, when you get scared I will hold your hand. So just reach out to me and I will hold it, so you won't be scared. Ok?"

It was really sweet.

Who stole the cookie??

Driving home from picking up Madisen at school we had this conversation...(or very very similar)

Madisen: Mom, I didn't get to eat my cookie today because Kaitlyn stole it and ate it!

Me: Did you see her take it and eat it?

Madisen:  No. But I know she did!

Me: But how do you know it was her and not someone else?

Madisen: Because last week, when I had a cookie, she took it and ate it.

Me: Well, Madisen you don't know she did it this time because you didn't see her take it and you didn't see her eat it, it could have been someone else. Did you tell Ms. Belcher?

Madisen: No, because she wasn't there today. But Mom, we are not supposed to share our food. That is the rules. And some kids break the rules.

Me: Yes,  you are right. But everyone makes mistakes and we all break rules sometimes even though we know better. Sometimes mommy yells and I shouldn't. Sometimes you hit your sister, and you shouldn't. Those are all things that Jesus doesn't want us to do, but still sometimes we do them and choose the wrong.

Madisen: But stealing is the worse! It is not listening to Jesus.

Me: Stealing is wrong, you are right. But Madisen you don't know for sure it was Kaitlyn so let's not assume that it was her when we don't know for sure, Ok? Let's not talk bad about other people. Heavenly Father and Jesus don't want us talking bad about other people, because that is also choosing the wrong.

Avery: Yeah, Madisen let's talk nice and not talk bad about her.

Madisen: Fine. But now I don't have a cookie. (starts to cry)

Avery: Let's investigate! We need to solve this mystery!  ....WHO STOLE MADISEN'S COOKIE?!

Me: (laughing to myself) Yes, Avery is right. Maybe we should try and solve it tomorrow. Why don't you ask Kaitlyn if she ate it? Then you will know for sure.

Madisen: But mom she lies. She told the teacher a lie yesterday and got in trouble twice with two cards pulled! The first time for pulling my hair and the second time for lying about it. I heard her.

Me: Madisen, I am sorry you didn't get to eat your cookie today. I am sorry you got your feelings hurt. That must have felt awful to have someone take it from you. It's not nice to steal or to lie. That's why we teach you and Avery and Emily to always tell the truth and be nice. But even you guys make mistakes and choose the wrong. And we have to then say we are sorry and repent and do better next time. How about when we get home you can have a cookie.

Avery: And me too!?!

Me: Yes, you too, Avery.

Madisen: Ok. (a small smile appears on her face)

"Cucumbers"

Madisen found my coupon file book and asked, "What is this?"

Avery: Madisen, that's Mom's cucumber book!
As we were driving to the library this morning, we saw a big billow of grayish/white smoke rising in the sky. Avery: "Look Mom, Jesus is in the smoke coming down to see us!"

A Couch "Raisin"

Avery was watching some cartoons and I told her we need to turn it off now and do something else. She whined and said, Why?

I told her watching too much TV is not good.

Avery: "Mom, if you watch too much TV you will turn into a raisin!"

That could be true.

A sugar-holic.

Madisen asked Avery: Do you like ice cream or cake better?
Avery answered: I like ice cream and cake and cookies and cupcakes and CANDY!!! AHHHHH!

What a nut.

Did you pee your pants?

Avery and Madisen have been known to pee their pants many times while being tickled. The other day Avery came up and tickled me and said, "Did you pee your pants Mom?"

Avery's prayer

Avery gave the prayer tonight before going to bed and she said in her princess high pitched voice,

Dear Heavenly Father, please bless that we can sleep good.
That we can be good.
Please Father. Please bless that we can have some lunch.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We all busted up laughing. Lunch? This kid is all about food.

Chocolate milk, part 2

Avery always likes to drink chocolate milk, and she asks for it over and over.  Whenever I tell her that she's already had chocolate milk today, she says, :Yeah, but I haven't had another chocolate milk!"

pretty sneaky.

No Smoking

Our neighbor was out smoking and I was talking with her for a few minutes and Madisen kept trying to interrupt us. I kept saying, "Hold on Madi". Finally I said, WHAT Madisen!? Madi turns to our neighbor: Jesus said we shouldn't smoke! We have to choose the right."

!!!  (Awkward:)

.....Thanks Madi.

I love Spending!

We were having Family Home Evening last week and we have started (again) the chore chart. We were giving  the girls' their money for doing their chores that week and splitting the money in three ways in their piggy bank. Spending-60%/Savings-30%/Tithing-10%

They are both really excited about getting an allowance. It's not much, but to a kid it is! Anyway, Madi said as we were done, "I love the spending part the the best!"

Typical girl.

Gravity

As we were driving home from picking Madisen up from school she asked me,

"Mom, so the eartf(earth) is round like a ball, so how can we drive on it? Because we would fall off and be upside down?"

Hmmm....I wasn't quite sure how to answer this as I had a brain *toot.

I said, Well the earth is so big, that it's like it's flat.

Madi: But it's not flat so how come we don't fall off.

We have gravity to pull us down.

Madi: Oh, ok. (like that made all the sense to her.)

Those round things...

Madisen asked me last night, "Mom, what are those things?" pointing at my shirt.

I said, "What things? This picture on my shirt?"

Madi: No, those round things on you?

Me and Ryan finally getting what she is talking about and trying not to laugh...."Those are called breasts. Every girl gets them when she gets older."

Madi: Well, why?

Me: Well, because that's how girls are made. Breasts are there to feed our babies when they born. They produce milk.

Madi: How come boys don't have them?

Me: They just don't. Only girls

Madi: What do you do with them?

Me: Well, like I said, they are there to feed babies milk. When a mom has a baby milk comes out of them and feeds the baby. And when you get bigger and older like mommy and have a baby you will get them too.

Madi: Oh.

100 Jelly Beans=Fat

I picked up Madisen from school yesterday and I was talking with her about greater and less than. I would asked her things like what number is greater 5 or 7 and she would tell me.

I then asked her what is greater 99 or 100. She said 99.

I said, "would you rather have 99 jelly beans or 100??" (thinking she would rather have 100, what kid wouldn't want more candy, right?)

She said, "99 jelly beans."

I said, "Madi 100 jelly beans is more or greater than 99."

She said, "I know! BUT 100 jelly beans will make you FAT!"

Heaven

I asked Avery what her name was.

Avery.

What is your last name?

Hodges.

What is your middle name?

Heaven.

hahahahah!! Funny girl.

Follow Him

Tonight for F.H.E. I was giving the lesson on following our Savior and His example. I asked Avery, "How can we follow Jesus?"

Her reply: "We can follow Him on the sidewalk."

Chocolate milk goodness!

Avery loves chocolate milk and we probably give in to giving it to her more often than not. But how can we resist when she asks us like this:

"May I have chocolate milk pleeease!!!  I'll be GOOD... with chocolate milk!"

What's your favorite movie?

The other day Madi asked me what my favorite movie was.  I told her it was the Lord of the Rings and that, if you wanted to watch the whole series, it would take you about 12 hours.  She looked at me and exclaimed, "Wow!  If you watch it that long you're hair would get really hot!"

Um... okay, Madi

Choose the Right

Yesterday the girls were marching around the house with a "CTR" sign, singing  Choose the Right...when a choice is placed before you...Choose the Right...when a choice is placed before you..." Over and over again. It was quite cute.

"You don't know ME!"

The other night I took the Avery and Emily into the bedroom to read books to them while Ryan was working with Madisen on homework. I read them a few books and left the room for a few minutes when I went back to check on them, Avery was asleep. I had to wake her up to get her ready for bed, and while trying to do so, she groggily looks up at me still asleep or half asleep and says, "You don't know me." In this Texas drawl voice. I laughed so hard, it woke her completely up. She started laughing at that point too. I asked her, do you remember what you just said? You said, "You don't know me." I could tell she then realized what she said, and we both started laughing and saying, "You don't know me!"

It was really funny!
