On Friday when I went to pick Madi up from school, she was excited to show me an award and the prize she got for being good the whole week.

Madi: "Look Mom, I got to pick out of the treasure box for being in "PINK" this week! And look, I got this totally awesome Frisbee!"

Me: Good job Madi. That's awesome.

Avery: Yeah, Madi. That's a totally cool FRIZZ.

*Avery sounded like she was rapping while saying that. Made me laugh.

-----------------------------------------------
Another conversation just a few minutes later, I told the girls they were going over to the Bromley's house tonight while Ryan and I went to a work party. They were really excited as they like playing at their new friend's house.

Madi: I can take my new Frisbee and play with Beau. And Avery can play with Morgan and her barbies.

Avery: Yes! That's an-I-dea! (meaning...that's a great idea, Madi.)

It was pretty funny. It was one of those things where you had to be there. I hope later in life I can still remember how it was said and the expressions they used.

Tangled

We went to the movies today for Thanksgiving and took the girls to see Tangled. It was such a cute show. During the show while Eugene and Rapunzel were about to kiss, Avery yelled, "Are they married yet?"
The rows of people in front of us and behind us all laughed out loud as well as we did. At the end of the show she asked again, "Are they married now? Did they get married in the temple?! I didn't see her in a white dress?" We have grinned that into our girls, that when you get older and met your "prince" that Heavenly Father wants us to be married and sealed in the temple for eternity. Glad to know Avery has caught onto that lesson.

Too much fun

We were at a friend's house tonight for Thanksgiving dinner, and Madi and Avery didn't listen to us very well, so we told them once we got into the car that we were disappointed in them. We told them to keep it down many times and to stop running around and they didn't listen. So Madi tells us on the way home:

"Dad, we were having so much fun, we COULDN'T hear you!"

Telling a Lie

This morning I slept in an extra hour while the girls watched cartoons. I came out of the bedroom to be with them and noticed Madi hiding behind a pillow. I said, What's wrong Madi? Don't be scared of Clifford, it's not a scary show. She said, "I'm not scared Mom. I don't like it because T-bone(one of the dogs on the show) is lying. He really did do it and he is lying about it."

She is so sensitive and knows right from wrong at such a young age. I love these qualities about her. She is such a good example to me and makes me want to be a better mom. love you Madi!

yells like a girl

Last week, Avery and I were walking up to Madi's School to get her from class and this little boy, a few yards from us, all of a sudden yells really loud. Avery looks at me and says, "That boy yells like a girl!"

Lots of good Ideas

My conversation with Avery yesterday...it went something like this:

Me: Oh, no. We have to go pick up Madi at school soon and it's raining so hard, what are we going to do? We are going to get all wet!

A: Yeah, we are gonna get wet! We will just run really fast!

Me: Run? What do you mean?

A: We have to run fast so we don't get wet. And get in the car!

Me: But it's raining so hard that we will get wet even if we run fast. So how do we stay dry?

A: We get a UN-brella!

Me: Yeah, that will work! Good thinking Avery. But what about our feet? They will get wet going through all those puddles?

A: We will jump over them so we don't get wet!

Me: Good idea!

A: Yeah, that's an idea.

Me: Well our shoes will still get wet and our pants. How should we keep them dry?

A: We wear our boots!

Me: Yeah! Good idea. You are just full of good ideas, Avery!

A: Yeah. I gots lots of them.

hehe....=)

Tor-Ma-Doe

Rainstorm! It's been raining like crazy here the last hour, just massive amounts of rain. Well my husband called  from work saying her heard there was a tornado about two miles from here, so he called to check on us and tell us. I looked at the news/weather Chanel and told Avery there was a tornado. She looked at me WIDE-EYED and very seriously and with her high-pitched screechy voice yelled, "There's a TOR-MA-DOE?! AHHHHH!"

I laughed out loud.

Then she said, "What's a Tor-ma-doe Mom??

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

We were going to the store and Madisen asked if we could get her favorite cereal, Fruit Loops. We asked, what else do we need. Avery yells out, "We need candies and princesses too!"

Oh really??

It's a good day to be a dad

The family and I were all watching the Boise State - Virginia Tech game on Monday night, and Boise State had just scored to win the game at the very end, when Madi came up to me crying.  I asked her "Why are you crying, Madi?"

Madi: "that girl on TV is crying."

I looked at the screen and a Virginia Tech fan was teary-eyed as she watched her favorite team lose.

Me: "she's just sad that her team is going to lose the game."

Madi: "But why is she so sad?"

Me: "Because it's sad when your favorite team loses."

Madi:

Me: Oh, Madi.  It's ok.  When we see somebody crying, we can go give them a hug and tell them we love them.

Madi: but how can I give her a hug if she's on TV?

Me: How about this: we can go say a prayer to Heavenly Father and he will help her to be happy again."

Madi: ok.

So we went into an empty bedroom and knelt down and prayed that the lady on TV would be happy again.

I asked Madi if she felt better now, and she told me yes, that the lady would be happy now that we asked Heavenly Father to make her happy.

To see that much empathy in my little girl already was a real blessing to me, to know that she wants others to be happy and that she is sensitive enough to see someone in pain and want to help.

Boy crazy already...

Ryan was joking around with Madi and asked her: Are you going to let more boys kiss you in school this year? (As she had two boys kiss her in preschool!!)

Madi: I don't know.

Ryan: You better not! haha!

Me: Madi you better make sure you tell dad and I when you start liking boys.

Madi: I already DO!

Us: Laughing...and crying.
I was clipping a hang nail off from my big toe and Avery walks over and says, "Mom why are you cutting your toe off?!"

Marriage at age 2... We are in trouble!

Today Avery and I had a conversation about marriage. She told me she is going to get married on Sunday. She has been asking lots of questions about marriage lately. She tells us everyday that she is a princess and wants to wear a princess dress and she is going to marry a prince. (Seems we have been watching too many Disney movies lately. ;)

I asked her who are she going to marry on Sunday.

She said, Daddy!

But I'm married to daddy, I said. So who are you going to get married to?

I don't know.

And you can't get married till your big.

I am big NOW mom.

Yes, you are a big girl, Avery. But you have to be at least 20 before you think about getting married. You can't grow up too fast or Mommy will be sad.

Madi's prayers

Madi said the family prayer tonight and it was the cutest prayer, I just had to record it.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this day.
Please bless us that we will be safe.
Please bless Emily that she won't have sores on her feet.
Please bless that we can pray better.
Please bless that we can sleep good.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

She is doing so well on her prayers and we are so proud of her!

Yellow Teeth

(Not to make great grandma feel bad but I just thought this was hilarious!)

I was showing the girls pictures from our trip down to Colorado this last weekend and the pictures of me and Great Grandma Hodges making goofy faces together. Well Madi says, "Yellow is my favorite color. How come grandma has yellow teeth? Did she paint them?"

haha! To be young, and innocent.

Heads up, Seven-up!

Christy and I were having FHE with the family the other night and we decided to play heads up Seven-up. We explained how to play the game and then we put our heads down and our thumbs up.

Soon after, I felt a little tap on my thumb, and then a huge fart from the same vicinity as the tap on my thumb.

...Avery.

So subtle.

Princess Mom

Yesterday was Mother's Day. I bought myself a new dress for Mother's Day, because well, I really wanted a new dress. :) And Avery kept telling me all day, "Mom, you a Princess!" Aww...thanks Avery! So are you!

Playing dinosaurs

Madi, Avery, and I (Ryan) were playing dinosaurs the other day and chasing each other around the house.

Madi stopped and said, "Okay, now I'm a T-Rex."

I said, "Ok. I'll be a Triceratops."

Avery smiled and said, "I'll be a bum-bum."

Red Bead

The girls were playing outside and I had just given them a Popsicle and was heading back in the house, when Madisen said, "Wait mom! I have something for you."

Me: "You do?"

Madisen: "Yeah, it's in my jacket pocket." She pulls out a little red bead. "Look, my friend Emma from school had lots of beads and she gave this one. I told her my mom likes the color red so I will give it to her."

Me: "Oh thanks Madi! That was very sweet of you."

Avery Eve

Three different conversations today I had with Avery:

Avery: What you doing mom?

Me: Going to the bathroom.

Avery: Oh, you better hurry, so you don't pee your pants!

Me: Ok. Thanks for the tip. ;)

_________

Avery: I love you mommy.

Me: I love you too, Avery.

Avery: I love you the mostest, mostest! (gives me a big hug around the neck).

Me: Awww... I love you the mostest, mostest, mostest!

________

Avery: Ah, watch out! You have a spider on your eye!

Me: LOL! No, Avery. That is just make-up. It's called mascara and it makes my eyelashes long and black.

We were getting ready to walk out the door and I asked Avery, where's your coat?
Avery said, "It's up high... in the air! It's high so I can't reach it."

Apparently Carnivores aren't Animals...

We were playing animal Charades the other night and half way through the game Madi gets up and does a horse impression and Ryan guesses it right. So whoever guesses it right gets up and takes a turn being an animal. Well by that point we had already gone through 20 or more animals so Ryan started acting out a T-Rex. Madi jumps up and says, "Dad...you can't be a T-Rex! That's a carnivore!"

Choose the Right-Clean your Room!

About a month ago the girls and I stayed at my parents house for the weekend while Ryan was down in Utah doing his rotation. Madi and my little sister, Celeste had a funny conversation together that I wrote down just minutes after it happened. Here's their conversation:

Madi: Do you like to clean your room?

Celeste: No, I don't like to clean. Do YOU?

Madi: No, not really. Did grandma tell you to clean it?

Celeste: Yeah, but I haven't.

Madi: But cleaning your room is the right thing to do. Messy rooms are the wrong thing to do, And we need to choose the right, huh? So should we clean your room?

Another conversation:

Madi: I have a mirror like that too at my house.

Celeste: You do?

Madi: Yeah. But I have a picture of Jesus too.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Avery (yelling from the bathroom): Mom! I did a poo-poo in the toilet!

Me: Good job Avery.

Avery: Look! There's a big daddy poo-poo and a little baby poo-poo.

Me(laughing): Yeah, you're right.

Back seat driver...

Avery is always giving me advice on how to drive.

For example:

"Mom, be careful." (As a car was going by.)

"Mom go slower." (When I was in a hurry and driving a little...ok a lot faster than I should have been.)

"Mom be careful of that car." (When I was parking at Madi's school.)

"Watch out Mom!" (When a car pulls up by us.)

"Don't crash Mom!" ( Whenever she feels scared.)

I don't know where she got this worry from....?

Oh, yeah. Me.

Have a good day!

As we are waiting for Madi's school bus to get here, I watch as Avery goes over to Madi and softly strokes Madi's cheek and says, "You have a good day, ok?"

So cute!

Exposed

Last night Avery came into the bathroom as I was using it. I was in the middle of putting on a pad for the night because my monthly "friend" came and Avery yelled out, "Mommy wears a diaper! Hahaha!"

Thanks Avery.

Grandpa is a good friend

Last week Avery was in the hallway looking at family pictures and laughing with her "fake" laugh.

Me: What's so funny?

Avery: Madi is sitting by Grandpa.

Me:Oh! What are they doing?

Avery: Grandpa is funny.

Me: Yeah, he is huh?

Avery: Grandpa is my friend. (pause) I love him.

Me: AWWWW! That is so nice Avery!

Poo and Pee

This morning I went in to help Avery go potty, even thought she wanted to do it herself. As she was sitting there, she shouted, I DID A POO-POO!

Me: You did?

Avery: Yeah.

Me: Let me see?

She stands up.

Me: No you didn't, silly!

Avery: Yeah. I did a poo-poo again, and again, and again, and again, and again!

Me: Oh really??

Avery: No.... I just did a pee-pee.

CTR

Last night at the dinner table we were talking to Madi about things that she loves that she got from her grandpa Hodges. She loves this pajama shirt that says Colorado on it. She also loves her Zebra that she got from him. Then she mentioned how she loved "Minnie" but that it wasn't from grandpa it was from Colton's house. Minnie is a stuffed giraffe that she got from her cousin Colton. Colton liked her cow and she liked his giraffe, so they traded. However, last night Madi said, "This is Colton's giraffe. I need to give it back to him, because that would be the right thing and I want to choose the right."

Ryan and I just looked at each other and smiled and told her that is a good choice.
What a good kid.

Irreverent behavior

It was my turn (Ryan) to take the girls to church recently and we were in sacrament meeting, trying to be reverent, when Avery ripped a huge one right after a prayer. She then shouted with pride, "I tooted, Daddy!"

I was a little embarrassed (maybe a lot!) and tried to hush her up, but then she did it again. Other pews full of people started to glance over in our direction, some of them suppressing giggles. I again tried to hush Avery. She responded to me with a look of fervent concentration. Her face began to grow red and her eyes squinted together. Just then, another one ripped through the air!

"I tooted again, Daddy!"
