Giggling Girl

Emily has such a cute laugh. And when she gets going she can't stop! She was giggling the other day because of something dad did- I can't recall what it was, bummer- but Emily was giggling for 5 minutes straight! So funny to hear her laugh like that.

"Yes! Kind of. I think so? No..."

Before school I asked Avery if she had made her bed. She confidently said, "Yes!" Then a few seconds later she said, "Kind of. I think so....No." It was pretty funny. Going from a confident YES, to a sad, No. haha! Made me laugh.

Helper

Emily is such a great helper. It's like she sees and is aware of others and helps out. She is always holding the doors for people and always helps me with groceries. She is just an amazing helper and I love that about her.

Worn out...perhaps.

We were debating what to make for dinner tonight as Ryan and I were both feeling under the weather and tired. We said let's just have a free for all...meaning anything for dinner is fine. Avery nods her head and says, "Maybe because mom is worn out, perhaps."

Slide Burn?

I took the girls over to the park to play for awhile as Madisen did tennis lessons. As Emily was coming down the slide she said, "I'll tell you what! Owwweee!!! That hurt!"

Cereal Box Crush

I walked into the kitchen this morning and overheard Madisen talking to Emily, saying "you just can't stop staring at him can you?"

I was curious as to what Madisen meant by that and noticed Emily staring at the cereal box. There was a young man with a beard on the box. And Emily said, "I just can't stop staring at him!"

I busted up and said, "Let me see this guy you can't stop staring at?!" I said, "Do you think he is cute?" She shyly said, "Noooo..... Ok yeah. Haha!" Then she covers her eyes with her hands!

It was pretty funny.

Destruction. Instructions. It's all the same.

The girls and I were eating ice cream sandwiches at the counter and talking about ways to do something. (Can't remember what it was!) And Avery said, "We could make it but we have to follow the destructions."  Madison and I started laughing. "You mean the Instructions, Avery?" Avery then realized what she said and we all busted up laughing!

Drawing Dragons

We were driving to the park today and Madisen leaned over the seat and picked up a piece of paper. It was a drawing of a dragon she had drawn in her primary class the day before. I asked her about it. And she told me that they had a few minutes left in class yesterday that they had a drawing contest. And everyone voted on which one they liked.

If you don't know Madisen very well, she is an exceptional drawer. She draws way better at her age then I do at 32. She has never had any drawing or art classes yet, however she does a lot of 3D pictures which I didn't learn till I was a teenager!

Anyway so she showed me her dragon picture and it was awesome! I asked her who won the drawing contest. She was a little hesitant to tell me but finally real quietly she said she won.

I was like Awesome! I asked her about the other drawings of dragons in the class and this is where she busted up. She starts telling me the other dragons were like stick figures or looked like elephants or dogs! She then got modest again, and said, "But you know the boys all tried. And everyone liked Linden's dragon too. Her cousin taught her to draw one and she had drawn it many times she said." Madisen has 4 boys in her class and 4 girls I believe.

Madisen then said something like, "The boys in my class asked me if I had ever drawn a dragon before and I told them no. They were surprised at how good it was without ever drawing one before."

As a mom it is so great to see her blooming and blossoming! Watching her gain confidence in herself and seeing her recognize her talents is a wonderful thing. We love her so much. And although at times we may be a little tougher on her than her sisters it's because we know she can achieve great things in her life, she just needs a little push. I hope she always continues to strengthen her talents and share them with the world!

Back to School

Grampa Hodges came by and told the girls that he was going back to school and Madi said, "Did you fail kindergarten? Is that why you have to go back?"

The Lord's Day

Christy told Avery to go clean up her room and Avery responded, "I can't mom! It's the Lord's day of rest."

New Beethoven Lyrics

We were talking about Beethoven and the girls were singing the first four notes of one of Beethoven's pieces, and then Emily sang "Can I have a fork!" to the music.  We all busted up!

"Mom I love peas! They are each distinctly delicious!"

Love her.

Messy Pants

I was doing a load of whites today and putting them into the washing machine, and Emily stopped to help me load the clothes in. She picked up a pair of my garments and said, "Eww! You spilt spaghetti on your pants!" (It was blood from my period). Taking the garment from her quickly I said, "yeaaaah. oops!" haha!

We are as old as we feel!

As I was driving Emily to school this afternoon and she said, "Mom, I am six but how come I still feel like I am five?"
That made me laugh. I told her, "Yeah, I know what you mean. I am 32 but I still feel like I am 18!"

Refused Proposal

Emily told me yesterday a boy asked her to marry him. She told him "No!" I guess he kept asking her all day. She was laughing about it and it was really cute. Turns out this boy is a 5th grader! WHAT!? Maybe he thought she was older than she was, or he was just teasing her. I don't know, but we thought it was cute!

Sound it out!

Ryan and Emily were playing around with a paper that had a drawing of a watermelon that she had drawn and colored at school. It had something written in small letters on the bottom of the page. Ryan asked, "What does it say?" Emily immediately responded, "Sound it out!"

Holy Pants

I (Ryan) was looking for my wallet and Emily said "I know! I know! It's in your primary pants!  You know, the pants you wear to church!"

Bathroom toots

We were at a Family Home Evening at the college ward and Avery said she needed to go to the bathroom, so I went with her. She walks into the bathroom and stands away from me a little bit and then toots. Then just as soon as she does, she says, "Ok. I am done!"

I laughed and said, "Don't you have to go to the bathroom Avery?"

"No, I just didn't want to toot out there so people could hear it."

About 2 minutes later, she says Mom, "I have to go to the bathroom."

"You just did?!" Then she winks at me and I know exactly why she has to go. Funny kid.

Hiccups at 10

Our friend Dan was visiting from Washington and asked Emily, "Do you know what happens when you turn 10?"  She responded, "Of course! You get hiccups."

A Cup

Last night as we were all gathered around the dinner table eating, I for some reason brought up that we know all objects have names, a name by which we call it by.  For instance I said,  like a plate or fork. I asked them wouldn't it be weird if this plate was called something else? But the word, plate seems to fit the object. But if the plate were named a fork, we wouldn't know the difference, we would just assume it was a fork, because that is the name that object was given. The girls thought about it for awhile and starting talking about other objects and naming them different things. Emily sat pondering then she blurted out, "But a cup is a cup because it is shaped like a cup."

Lol. I don't know why but it was so funny what she said that we all just busted up laughing so hard!

Sweet Emily

Before school each girl wanted a quarter so they could buy a popsicle at school. After school I asked the girls if they got their popsicle. Emily replied, "Yes I got a popsicle but I gave it to someone because they didn't have one."

Emily has such a caring heart and she shares with everyone so much that sometimes she is left with little to nothing. She is sure a great example to me.

Weird!

Ryan had cut his hair in the bathroom and it was on the floor in a little pile of black hair. Avery saw it when she came in and said, "Mom, has a hawk been in the bathroom?!"  I chuckled and said, "No of course not. What are you talking about? A Hawk?" Then she said, "Yeah a hawk. Because there is hair."

Sometimes I worry about my kids! Weird! Haha. I told her that it would be pretty impossible to have a hawk in the house and besides hawks don't have hair, they have feathers.

Fasting

It was fast Sunday and Ryan and I decided to take a nap so we wouldn't dwell on being so hungry. Well after awhile, Madisen comes in and asks us if we were still fasting. We told her yes, but we would soon get up and make dinner. She left our room and came back 5 minutes later with 2 P&J sandwiches and glasses of water to drink. She said, "I thought you would be hungry so I made you a snack."

She is so thoughtful! Thanks Madisen.

Did you hear something?

Avery: Hey! Did YOU fart?!

Madisen: No

Avery: I thought I heard a fart.

Madisen: Well usually the one to hear it is the one who did it.

Avery: Uh! Noooooooooo....(smiles really big).

Bad Choices

Emily had a friend over to play today and as I was in the office, getting caught up in none other than blogging! - I overheard her talking to her friend Andrea saying, "Hey, let's pretend that they are girls that want to be bad and they get Tattoos and they smoke, even though they know it's bad."

I sure hope she always remembers that doing those things is a bad choice and she never does!

Football is...

We were talking about football this morning at breakfast time and Madisen said, "I don't understand football. All it is, is a bunch of guys running around hating each other.... and the first rule of the game is don't get killed."

Parethood

The bus driver who takes Emily to school just made my day. She told me that she can tell that our girls really love and look out for each other and that we must be great parents. That is so nice to hear as I sometimes feel like a failure of a mom! But I am so proud of my girls and the way they treat each other. I hope Ryan and I have been good examples of loving parents to them. I hope they always remain close and  good friends. Especially when my own mom is so amazing!

Baptism for the Dead.

This morning as we finished up our family meeting with a song, prayer and spiritual thoughts for the day Madisen asked how do you could baptize someone if they are already dead? Avery spoke up real quick and said, "I know! You throw their dead body into the water and they get baptized!"

I busted up laughing so hard. I know I shouldn't have, but it was so funny. Then we talked about having respect for the dead and how you take upon yourself the name of someone that has passed on and do the work for them.

Scott Sterling!

We were out on the trampoline yesterday playing "Scott Sterling!" (if you don't remember what this is, just google it and soccer goalie) and Avery nailed Emily right in the face with a big purple ball.  Emily was down for the count and I stopped the game and picked her up.  When I asked her if she was all right, she told me "Avery kicked the ball and it hit my nose right in the face!"
